Last Saturday, I had dinner at Eastwood City. I was joined by Manilamommy herself, Neva; her brother Gino and Paul Perez, Philippine Representative of Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA). I think we were all excited to try out one of the new restaurants there, Buenisimo by Cafe Ysabel.
Entering the restaurant eludes a relaxing, cozy ambiance. Eastwood City, generally, has that vibe. People are even allowed to bring their dogs inside the malls — quite unique compared to other malls around the metro. Anyway, Buenisimo captured that feel with its Spanish-inspired setting. (Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the setting.. but Manilamommy does!)
Their service was exceptionally friendly. I made a reservation for 6PM and arrived alone at around 5:55PM. While waiting, Neva sent me a text saying that she and her brother will be running late (for unfortunate reasons, if I may add).
So I waited. The staff was kind enough to offer me bread while I waited. I didn’t take it ’cause I might get full on it. Anyway, when they arrived, we were waited on immediately.
It was a nice meal to cap off our quite toxic Saturdays.
For starters, we all had bread. Buenisimo’s own freshly baked Ciabatta with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. We were given one slice each.
I never found out if it’s bread-all-you-can because immediately after, our drinks and our salad arrived. I drank this:
It was quite refreshing. The sourness of the passion fruit and the cool, refreshing aftertaste of mint was captured in this drink.
It was the usual Caesar salad. I wasn’t really impressed with this dish, though. Probably because I’m not really a fan of mayo-based dressings such as the thousand island dressing on this one. But nonetheless, I ate it. It was light with the lettuce adequately crispy. They smartly placed the bacon on the side – for vegetarians, probably.
We also got one of their specialties: Truffle Pizza.
This one I love! First because it’s thin crust (and it’s the type that’s not crispy to the point that it makes that cracking sound when you bite into it); No, this one is the perfect thin crust: light with no excess flour, with the cheese melted so intimately with the bread that each bite is a love story of their marriage. LOL! I have to say it seems like a simple dish with truffle placed seemingly randomly on the pizza but ohboy! I enjoyed it so badly that it was the last thing I chewed before leaving. hehe.
Pasta always complements pizza. Gino ordered:
All I can remember about it is its being a three-cheese pasta. The sad thing about it is we were all left looking for the “three-cheese” taste. I guess I didn’t dig deep into it.
And of course, the pièce de résistance, Australian Lamb Rack with Apple and Fennel relish.
It’s something new for my buds. Who knew that finely chopped apples in cognac sauce, topped with fennel relish would blend well with a grilled Australian lamb rack! The sweetness of the apples and the fennel surprisingly balances the taste of the meat. It’s like Alice in Wonderland meeting the Mad Hatter for the first time. Sweet and crazy but oh what a fun sight to see!
We didn’t have dessert (nobody ever mentioned it, haha!). I guess everyone was too engrossed talking about Noynoy, the current Philippine president-apparent, dating! But the meal was capped off with Neva and Gino picking a prize off a fishbowl.
Buenisimo by Cafe Ysabel is one of the restaurants participating in Meat & Livestock Australia’s “Moms for May” promotion. We’ve extended Mothers’ day until the end of May. If you eat at Buenisimo, Uncle Cheffy’s or O’Sonho Portugese Fusion Restobar (in their Eastwood branches only), and order at least one Australian Lamb dish, you get a chance to win any of the ff.:
- 1-week unlimited trial at Bikram Yoga in Eastwood
- 1 Deluxe Massage from any The Spa branch
- 1 Purple Card from Stores Specialists, Inc. (redeemable at any Nine West, Beauty Bar, etc…)

Not bad, right? I got mom a kiss and a hug for Mothers’ Day. I could’ve given her a recipe card at least. hehe. Oh well, at least I gave another mommy a treat. You can check out Manilamommy’s entry here.
Mom, if you’re reading this, don’t get jealous or anything. I love you to bits!
